Alappuzha, often known as Alleppey, is a town in the Alappuzha District of Kerala, a state in southern India. This township is thought to be the oldest designed settlement in the state, and the lighthouse placed on its coast is one of the first of its sort along the Arabian coast. Alappuzha, often known as Alleppey, is located 62 kilometres south of Kochi and 155 km north of Trivandrum.Lord Curzon dubbed it as the “Venice of the East” because of its attractive backwaters, beaches, canals, and lagoons.

How To Reach?

Alleppey is well connected and easy to reach. Nearest Railway stations are Ernakulam and Cochin. Cochin International Airport is just about 85 km from Alappuzha town. Apart from this it also had amazing road connectivity.

Alappuzha, often known as the Venice of the East, has long played an important role in Kerala’s maritime history.

It is now well-known for its backwater vacations, beaches, boat racing, marine items, and coir industries. Alappuzha or Alleppey beach is also famous for picnics. The pier that runs into the sea here dates back more than 137 years. The entertainment amenities at Vijaya Beach Park add to the beach’s allure. There is also a nearby historic lighthouse that people find fascinating.

The annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race, held on the Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha on the second Saturday of August every year, is also the access point for the most spirited and well-liked of the boat races in India.

The Mullackal Chirap is also one of the highlights of Alappuzha or Alleppey’s holiday season, which lasts ten colourful days every year in December. Mullakkal Chirappu is an annual celebration held at the famed Rajarajeswari Temple in Mullakkal, Alleppey.  The entire city is lighted with brilliant lights, creating a festive atmosphere throughout. Every year, the Mullakkal Mahotsavam begins at the beginning of the Vruschika month, which is in mid-November.  It is a 41-day celebration, with the last 11 days celebrated in magnificent manner as the “Mullakkal Chirappu”. Thousands of devotees from throughout the state and visitors from all over the world throng to the temple to participate and pray to Goddess Rajarajeswari. A big gathering of worshippers follows nine caparisoned elephants to the temple. This is one of the most lovely sights to behold throughout this 11-day festivity.

A houseboat ride is another lovely experience in Alappuzha. The ones found in Alappuzha’s backwaters are redesigned versions of traditional kettuvallams. The first kettuvallams, or rice barges, transported tonnes of rice and spices. The kettuvallam, or ‘boat with knots,’ was so named because the entire boat was kept together solely by coir knots. Houseboats now provide all of the amenities of a good hotel, such as fitted bedrooms, modern toilets, pleasant living areas, a kitchen, and even an angling balcony. And when staying on a houseboat, one may always enjoy limitless vistas of backwater life.

Apart from the Backwaters, additional tourist attractions in Alleppey include Alappuzha Beach, which has one of the most stunning vistas of the Arabian Sea, Edathua Church, Champakulam Valia Palli, Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple, and Krishnapuram Palace.The delicious ambalappuzha payasam is a well-known delicacy that draws a lot of tourists.

Coir is the most important product produced in Alappuzha. The Central Government formed the Coir Board in accordance with the terms of the Coir Industry Act of 1955. At Kalavoor, there is also a Coir Research Institute.

Allepepy has a vast selection of attractions. This gives the location favorite spot for tourists.
