Day 1: Welcome to Lima, City of Kings, and the Larco Museum of Cultures
Upon arriving in Lima, you will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The day begins with an in-depth exploration of Lima’s historic center, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The journey starts at the Convent of Santo Domingo, one of the city’s foundational structures and home to the oldest university in the Americas, Universidad Mayor de San Marcos. Inside, visitors can view ancient library collections, including texts printed in the 15th century, and the final resting places of significant saints like San Martín de Porres and Santa Rosa de Lima. The tour continues across the Plaza Mayor, offering views of the Government Palace, the Municipality, and the impressive Cathedral of Lima, where colonial art brings history to life. The day concludes with a visit to the Larco Museum, offering a comprehensive view of pre-Columbian cultures through its exhibits of gold artifacts, textiles, and a famous collection of erotic ceramics. A rare opportunity awaits with access to the museum’s warehouse, where shelves are lined with remarkable ceramic art that reveals the spiritual and everyday life of ancient Peruvians. -
Day 2: Cusco, Capital of the Empire
After breakfast and a flight to Cusco, you'll be met upon arrival and taken to your hotel to acclimate. In the afternoon, the tour begins with a panoramic view of the city from San Cristóbal Square. The experience deepens at San Pedro Market, a bustling hub of local culture where the colors, aromas, and variety of regional products offer insight into daily life in Cusco. The journey then leads to the Qorikancha Temple, once covered in gold and considered the most sacred temple of the Inca Empire. From the artisans' quarter of San Blas, you’ll descend through the historic streets, passing the former palace of Inca Roca and pausing to admire the renowned Twelve-Angled Stone. The day concludes in the Plaza de Armas, where a visit to Cusco’s Cathedral reveals an exquisite collection of colonial-era artwork. -
Day 3: Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman
The morning begins with a visit to Sacsayhuaman, a colossal fortress whose massive stone walls and scenic surroundings testify to the engineering genius of the Inca civilization. The experience continues with a visit to Q’enqo, a fascinating rock sanctuary believed to have been used for ritual sacrifices. The tour then proceeds to the scenic lookout point at Puca Pucará and finally to Tambomachay, an architectural marvel and spiritual site believed to have been dedicated to water worship. The afternoon is left free for personal exploration of Cusco or relaxation. -
Day 4: Chinchero, Moray, and Ollantaytambo
The day’s exploration of the Sacred Valley begins with a journey to Chinchero, a charming Andean village famed for its vibrant textiles and traditional weaving techniques. At a local textile center, you’ll observe how alpaca wool is dyed and spun using time-honored Inca methods. After visiting the colonial church and ancient plaza of Chinchero, the route continues to Moray, a captivating series of concentric agricultural terraces that served as experimental gardens for the Incas. Following lunch, the journey takes you to Ollantaytambo, a living Inca town and archaeological site where highlights include the Temple of the Ten Niches, the Princess’ Bath, and the impressive Sun Temple. From high above the valley, breathtaking views of the ruins and surrounding landscape offer the perfect ending to this unforgettable day. -
Day 5: Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas
Anticipation builds as you travel to the train station in Ollantaytambo for the journey to Machu Picchu. After arriving in Aguas Calientes, a shuttle bus will take you up a winding mountain road offering spectacular views of the Urubamba River and the surrounding cloud forest. At the summit, the awe-inspiring city of Machu Picchu welcomes you with its perfectly preserved terraces, ceremonial areas, and intricate stonework. The powerful energy of this sacred site is felt immediately as you explore its ancient wonders. After an enriching visit, you’ll descend and return to Cusco by train, where your hotel awaits. -
Day 6: Tambopata National Reserve
The adventure continues with a flight to Puerto Maldonado, where a naturalist guide greets you and escorts you to the river port. A motorboat ride along the Tambopata River provides a visual transformation from developed land to pristine Amazon rainforest. Upon arrival at the eco-lodge, you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing fruit juice before setting out on an introductory walk through nearby trails. Along the way, you may encounter monkeys such as the capuchin and lion monkey, butterflies, and a variety of bird species. After dinner, a guided night walk offers a chance to spot nocturnal creatures, often revealed by the glint of their eyes under flashlight beams. Overnight accommodation is provided at the lodge. -
Day 7: Deeper into the Tambopata Rainforest
The day starts early with a birdwatching outing near the lodge, followed by breakfast. You’ll then travel by boat to a nearby trailhead that leads into deeper sections of the forest, culminating in a canoe trip across a serene lake. The lake is rich in wildlife, home to playful giant river otters, herons, and many other aquatic species. After lunch, further exploration of the lodge’s trail network provides more opportunities to encounter the forest’s hidden wonders. As night falls, your guide will lead a boat ride in search of caimans and other nocturnal animals, capping off a day of rich encounters with the biodiversity of the Amazon. -
Day 8: Farewell to Peru
